As a nurse who worked with patients on coumadin, my experience is that most dentists no longer ask patients to stop coumadin for most dental work. Even a tooth extraction they will do as long as INR is theraputic. Some dentist request INR be checked and results sent to them just prior to dental appt.

Saw my cardiologist yesterday and asked about stopping thinners prior to dental cleaning/surgery. He wants me to stay on clopid. and aspirin but stop warf. 3 days before procedure. I also will check INR on morning of app.t. I will also ask about the above mentioned hemostatic devices/chemicals. Thanks for the advice.

I had to stop Pradaxa 3 days before tooth extraction. Did not have to stop for root canal.

Watch our for Epinephrine.....it was a Huge Problem for me! It is in all Novocain, unless you tell them not to use it.

I have had the tachycardia during dental treatment. Is there an alternative med instead of the epinephrine that the dentist can use?

YES, There Are novacaines and other numbing agents that do Not have Epinephrine. They do not last as long but numbed me just as effectively as the one with epi.
I was told I might need an additional injection if it wore off, but I didn't require more. I was fine for a difficult root canal ( my roots had calcified) and biopsy on my foot.

I tell Dentists and Doctors I an allergic to Epinephrine.....so that it is in all my records.

MY INR was 2,4 yesterday ,i was little bit confused by my doc saying that i am at high risk what did she mean by that ,i e mailed her the same and waiting for reply .

then i read somehwre that they use tea bags for stoping bleeding infact they suugested for me to take tea bags when i go for xtraction .

Yes Ray, Black tea bags constrict the vessels. They will pack your extracted place with gauze pads.......Do NOT Touch them!!!!!!!

They will start the clot to form. You bite down on it for an hr or so. Your Dentist will tell you how long.

I moved mine on the way home, and as a result, I had difficulty forming a clot. The next day, I was still seeping blood. You dampen a tea bag and put it where the extraction was and put pressure on it. It stopped the last of the bleeding for me within an hr. I was so relieved.

Get all of the details days before you have your dental work. They tell you what to do, but after being in the dentist chair, it is difficult to understand everything. Call the office ahead of time, and ask them to email you the instructions It only took a minute or two to pull my tooth out....it was over Very Fast!!!!!!
