Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
As you know I am getting ready to have GB surgery on 12/28/12. Been having funny chin/jaw pain and upper back pain, saw cardio for surgery clearance, he said it could be angina, but he doubted it, as my ekg remains the same and my last nuclear stress and cath were excellent. He said I take Atenolol and that it is a good med for angina treatment. He cleared me, but I'm worried. Has anyone w/angina ever had surgery, what are the chances of me pulling through?
Your doctor doesn't think it is angina (ECG usually picks that up and apparently you weren't having a heart attack). You are nervous and you are having back pain that is a symptom of gall bladder problems...
When I read your question, "What are my chances of pulling through?" I went "What?" You don't have angina in all probability, especially with your gall bladder problem. If you didn't have a problem, you wouldn't be having the operation. You are definitely not an optimist. You are probably grinding your teeth at night. Listen to your doctor and try to relax.
