Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Had my first and hopefully last ablation experience around 1 week ago. All went smoothly, surgeon was in there forever, but took his time, was able to map everything out, and hopefully fixed the problem.
Overall, other than fatigued and reduced stamina at this point, recovery has been getting better each day except one lingering issue. I have this very mild pain directly in the center of my chest. It's more of an annoyance than anything else. I mentioned this to my EP, and he said it's common for heart inflammation to linger longer in some cases and to take Tylenol for the pain. His nurse is going to call and check up on me again tomorrow. However, after just drinking some cold water, the pain intensified, so I'm assuming it's my esophagus? Anyone ever had this issue? I know for the procedure they performed a TEE, so there was a fair amount of tubbage being sent down there.

I had a TEE directly before both ablations, during the first ablation I had a somewhat sore throat during the procedure which faded away (the sore throat, not the ablation) and was gone before I was back in my room. The TEE from the second time left my throat somewhat sore for about a week after but not so much that I felt sick or couldnt eat, it was just noticeable. I learnt not to try and talk for about an hour after a TEE; you sound like a frog!
During both ablations there was just a little discomfort during the time on the table when the EP was burning around in my heart, but not enough to say more than uuh. Most of the time I was just watching the screen and trying to figure out how they knew where they were in my heart and watching my heart go in and out of a-fib.
After both times I had absolutely no bruising in the groin nor did I have any chest pain whatsoever.
I think discomfort for a couple of days might be normal and not an emergency but if you are in pain you should inform your doctor.
I hope your a-fib is a thing of the past now!

post ablation. I am feeling 100% better then before ablation i still feel the occasional irregular heartbeat but it lasts a minute or two. I had one two hour a fib episode, one and a half weeks ago. I hope you will have a good recovery and your pain will subside.
