Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

For those who have had ablations, did you experience any palpitations during the three month healing process...and did they subside? I hear palpitations are normal during the blanking period.

I'm still NSR 5 weeks post ablation, but started getting some premature heartbeats this past week. My EPs physician assistant said he saw some at the end of my 4 week monitoring and they are benign, buy they're a nuisance.

It's the pits for sure. Hang in there, I'm sure it's just temporary though aggravation.

I was in NSR for the first month after my ablation, then my afib came back with a vengeance. I guess I'm somewhat of an unusual case, as most people who have ablations experience some arrhythmia right after the procedure that gradually tapers off over the blanking period. Mine did the exact opposite. Have ablation #2 scheduled for later this month.

Some PACs and other palps are par for the course after an ablation. The lesions created by the ablation are still healing, and until they do, some minor palps can happen. Try not to get too worked up about them, and enjoy the NSR. If it gets too bothersome, get in touch with your doc.

I'm scheduled to see my EP for my ablation follow in a few weeks and seeing my primary cardio doc later today. I wish you all the best with your 2nd ablation!

Hi BIGad0508: Occasional PACs and PVCs are common in the general population...with or without ablation and with or without Afib.

I am feeling a little distressed as post ablation 11 weeks and i just started palpitations....some very bad and some minor.... but in NSR

I actually forgot what it was like to feel like this - it was wonderful being normal for a bit :(
anyone else this close to the homerun and then out of nowhere - bam

yes I had palpitations off and on for about two months following my ablation. Not too bad, but still...I found that in the evening after I'd done some exercise earlier in the day to be a bad time, as well as when first going to bed. No afib though.

things have calmed down since then...knock on wood! My advice nurse says that palpitations and an accelerated rate are common post ablation.

I had my ablation this week. Since I got it there has been some palos. I have noticed my heart rate is accelerated. It can be annoying. Hope you feel better.
