Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Wow, hard to believe I was having an ablation a week ago. I want to thank all of you who posted about their ablation experiences, gave feedback and answered my questions via PM. Like others have said, I had a lot of anxiety going into the procedure, so the ablation success stories really helped.
After 1 week, I'm feeling pretty good. Still NSR and hope to continue that way for a while. My AFib recently became persistent, so having an ablation was a no-brainer for me....and I felt the rewards outweighed the risks. I plan to take it easy for now and get back to walking. I'll wait a while before I try full blown workouts and basketball.

Thats a good sign that you are still in NSR after one week! Dont freak out if a-fib pops back a couple of times before completely disappearing (hopefully). Those scars have to heal! Please continue to take it easy even though you have no zipper up your front your heart did get a good beating and it needs a bit of a rest.
I hope your heart stays in NSR and soon this will all be history!!

As you know, I have a long way to go, but I haven't felt this good in a while, so I'd definitely recommend Penn Medicine- they did over 700 ablations last year with very low complication rate. My EP is Mathew Hutchinson, who has a reputation of being a great clinician with good hands. My whole experience with my EP and his team has been great.
