Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I already got MY Thankgsiving treat!! Awoke at 12:30 AM today with mild Afib, did a little dance, drank a little gator ade, ate some lorezepam, meditated and prayed and...Miraculous!! It was over in about and hour and i slept! So grateful for that, a year ago I wouldn't have even known about such insanity. Shows you how circumstances can change fast.
Anyway, this leaves me not too exhausted to cook and entertain today for which I am VERY thankful! And I wish this peaceful blessing absence of afib to all who come here, today and always.

There are even a few Cardiac Psychologists who work with heart diagnoses.

I already see a cancer Physiologist, which I just have one more visit with her. I will be talking to her about heart issues this month I also check in with the Psychiatrist once every three months and she should have some good ideas.
To be perfectly honest a little tired of appointments so limit them as much as I can, it is a lot work to go there and look like nothing is wrong with me.

I'm scheduled for an ablation. They're planning to not put me under, but give me sedatives and opium (!!). I usually prefer to not be put under for any procedure, but in this instance, knowing how this issue effects me, I will request to be knocked out if possible.
More importantly: I've never taken a sedative in my life. But for after my ablation, I may request some sort of sedative, or anti anxiety medication. this is not like me at all. but after this last month, where I had anxiety issues, I wonder if a sedative to get me out of the obsessive worrying about my heart rate might be good--try to break the cycle of anxiety and panic, if you will.
does anyone have experience with this?
I do meditate and pray; problem is, getting quiet when I'm in this anxious state only amplifies my hearing my heart! But reading can help distract me.
Many of us on this site have been plagued by afib related anxiety, some more than others. It amazes me that some here are able to say "Hey, this isn't going to kill me," and they can just remain calm until it passes. I had my first (and thank God ONLY) full blown anxiety attack after developing afib. My EP just doubled my metoprolol. I didn't know that served the same purpose as anti-anxiety medication, but it worked for me. I do think that for those of us that are unable to handle the afib related anxiety, that is another pro for getting the ablation and putting the afib behind us. Good luck with your ablation...hope you got one of the superstar EPs, that seems to be a very important factor in success. Best of luck to you on your forthcoming ablation.

Meanwhile, I'll google metoprolol; I'm unfamiliar with it.
