Having some back pain issues in the past, I to have found relaxers and pain meds to effect my heart rate and rhythm. Taking 600 mg of Magnesium Malate with them may help and also that issue of constipation that comes with back meds. However, dont od on Mag to the point that your dont retain it. Try an epsom bath also, may hold in better. That may be effecting your heart the most. ITs all connected right! Best wishes. JT

the muscle relaxer is called flexeril i have bad neck pain i use to armature body build now im paying the piper ha ha i m leary about taking it i been on a good luck streak 3 months nsr with no meds i dont want it to throw me into afib

PS....I have taken some pretty strong pain meds for dental procedures and Back pain issues. I never went into afib from any of them.

Wow three months in NSR! Congratulates! I hear you about taking any new meds and the worry it will throw you into afib, I also have a fear of taking anything new and it may take me weeks to finally decide to try it.So your question to yourself should be if it does throw you into afib is the other benefit worth it? There are natural pain remedies out there you could try, do your research on natural pain relievers and anti*inflammatory and see if maybe one can work for you, Tumeric is a good one but you need the high grade organic. I took a very strong muscle relaxer last month called Tizanidine and I believe it contributed to my Afib attack last month. My cardiologist said it was possible that it triggered my afib but he couldn't say for sure.

I have to say that I was getting palpitations before that though and I did eat an ice ream drumstick with a little chocolate in the night before too so I can't be sure it was the muscle relaxer. I was in mar for 3.5 years before my last attack so I was really bummed out it happened. I also have a bulging disk in my low back that causes sciatica pain. My cardiologist said that the pain I was in probably caused the afib. I was surprised that pain could cause afib too.

i took the muscle relaxer had no problem im just nervous about taking meds so far i been in nsr BUT with me i get the palpitations like hearing my heart beat through my ears ha ha it drives me nuts i drink a ton of water stop smoking dont touch caffeine still trying to find out how to get that heart pumping palpitation to stop i dont know if they have something for it im willing to try it i went to the hospital 3 months ago i thought i was in afib im laying on the table the ekg show my heart was in nsr i was screaming to them it feels like my chest is caving in and my heart is going wild come to find out i was having muscle spasm on my chest and the wild feeling was coming from a nerve thats my neck is pinching smh thats my story :)

I know what you mean about the palpitations. I get them a lot and it's really frustrating and makes me extremely anxious. I'm glad the muscle relaxer didn't cause any problems. I also went to the hospital when having palpitations and thought I was in Afib too, but they said I was in NSR. This is such a frustrating condition to have! I also get that feeline of my chest caving in. It's really scary when it happens. I'm glad that you don't have to take meds for the Afib, though! I hope your back feels better. Mine is really giving me grief with sciatic pain!

Glad you are doing okay with the muscle relaxer, Are you on a beta blocker or calcium channel blocker, they can help with the palpitations. I know the pounding is very nerve wracking. Something you might want to ask you doc about. Mine was rally bad, it was so bad I could see my clothes moving with every beat. I noticed it was worst not too long after I took my thyroid med in the morning. Tried to tell my endo that and he thought I was crazy, as it turns out I was on too much thyroid meds. Needless to say I have a new doc and have reduced form 100 mcg to 50 and gee it has pretty much stopped. Been in NSR for 30 days now. You might want to get your thyroid checked too as it can also cause havoc for us afibbers,Take care!
