I'm sure others will be along that know more than I do, but I will tell you my experience with Multaq.

I took it for about 3 years, and it seemed to work very well for me. Kept me in NSR most of the time. I had started having a few break through episodes of AFib, and I decided to see an EP rather than just my cardiologist. The new doctor told me he wanted me to switch to Flecainide because Multaq was the "whimpiest" anti-arrhythmic on the market. I had no side effects at all, and I was quite apprehensive to stop it.

I think ALL medications have adverse reactions, and these types, especially, scare me. We do have to weigh the benefits with the risks and decide for ourselves. I will do just about anything to not have to worry about an A-Fib episode every day of my life!

So far, the Flec is working, and I'm not reacting to it at all. I wish you well with Multaq!

I took Multaq before my ablation and felt it definitely helped, and I didn't experience any side effects. I had to stop before my ablation and then went back on it after the procedure. During that time,(about 2 months) the only episodes I had were within the first week after the ablation, and was episode free for the rest of the time on Multaq. After the two months I was given a beta blocker to help take me off the Multaq and I experienced no problems. A little over 5 months now since my ablation and so far so good. My experience with Multaq has been a good one. JD

These rhythm drugs, when taken as a "permanent" rhythm management strategy, may not be a good choice, but when used temporarily as a perioperative "crutch" seem to contribute significantly to ablation success.

thanks all trying to stay positive in all this .just the ablation alone make me nervous but stopping the flec for week makes me more nervous. then switching to this new one just like to know its gonna be worth it its like 500 bucks a month . no generic but if works fine ill try anything to help .

I take Multaq, I have had no problems with it. I have been on it since 2011. At my last EP visit my, nurse did an EKG showed afib (which I didnt feel). And believe me, I know what afib feels like, I never want to feel like that again. When my doctor came in and listened to my chest, I was back in NSR. Did another EKG, showed NSR. He did order more testing, which came back WNL. He told me that a lot of affibbers will go back and forth with NSR and afib. We went over several options and decided that I stay on the Multaq for now since it has been doing a pretty good job with my afib. Good luck with your ablation!!

Don't worry about the ablation. I had mine a couple of months ago and it really was no big deal. I too was nervous about it prior to having the procedure done. But trust me when I say that you'll feel like it was rather easy when it's done. I'm on Multaq now during my blanking period to allow the heart to heal without any complications. I can't really say if it's doing its job. I haven't had any episodes after my ablation and have no side effects from the Multaq.
