I've been on Multaq (twice a day) for probably a year. The worst side effect is when I must pay for it. I'm quite sensitive to meds, and this one seems okay for me, but there are experts (and regular people) who question its effectiveness and long-term consequences. As long as I don't overeat, my afib episodes are pretty well controlled. I'm also on Diltiazem and LIsinopril.
Is the Multaq specifically for the cardioversion, or is it to continue after?

Thank you for your response. I am supposed to take it two days prior to my cardioversion and then continue afterwards. My AFIB is persistent. I also take effient because of a stent I received in April and I am on Eliquis twice a day.

This has been a lot for me to grasp in a short amount of time. The EP at Allegheny General Hospital here in Pittsburgh is suggesting an ablation if this does not work. Not sure yet but I am 49 and want to have a good life for a long time with my family.

On the very bright side, I had a very intense workout with my wife this morning.

I was on Multaq to control the afib, it did not work for me very well and eventually broke out in hives from it. We all respond to meds differently, it may work very well for you! Did he prescribe it to keep your afib in check or hopefully put you NSR?

I am going on it 2 days before cardioversion then twice a day to see if it works. Thanks for responding.

I've been on Multaq for almost a year. The only side effect I had was a sour stomach. But lasted about 3 weeks. Otherwise it works great and heart is responding to it. I take along with a 50mg extended release metaprolol. Seems to be my magic cocktail for nsr after 2nd ablation.

I just came back from my 6am cardioversion. Took 3 times but the 3rd time was a charm. Will be interesting to see if Multaq will keep me in NSR. Have a nice day!

Guess what....still in NSR but went to fill the prescription for Multaq. $400/month. I still have a week of samples. Not sure how I can pay for this. Crazy. Maybe I should ask Barry Manilow for the money? Lol

Check their website for a co pay coupon, so many of them do gave a cop pay card, I think I had one when I was on it and it cost me 30.00. I have private insurance at the time and that seems to make a diffidence with some of these companies.

Thank you Daisy. My insurance does not cover this drug so I do not qualify for the discount card. I have asked my doctor to send in a request for authorization for the Multaq.

I wonder if the Pharmacist knows of any other way to get a more reasonable cost.
