Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I've been on Flecainide since the end of Feb and have noticed some memory issues. Mostly with forgetting to do things, or not being as attentive to details as I should be, maybe forgetting to check on things as I do some tasks at work. Anyone else have this problem? Othewise, the drug has been a miracile for me.

Yes, for the time I was on Flec, memory was challenged severely. I started taking a chewable B12 and memory returned about as well as one can expect for a 60 yr old plus patient. Check with Cardio, but I would doubt if it would interfere with Flec.

Yes, memory is the second thing that goes....ummm can't remember the first thing.... ;-)

Seriously, I've been on Flec (2 x 50mg per day) for nearly a year now and I have not noticed any memory effects. It does seem to have a very slight, occasional effect of making me feel a bit more tired than normal but it seems minor. It has, so far, prevented any repeat AF episodes, although I did have a couple of minor atrial flutter or atrial flutter-like episodes which were terminated by taking a one-time extra Flec tablet along with the usual dose.

I, too, have been taking Flec (50mg twice a day) since February. No issues here, except I do feel a bit tired and unmotivated at times. I'm truly not sure if I can blame the med for that, or if I'm just taking it easy this summer! I did not notice it when I was teaching all day, and I'll know for sure once I go back next month.

I'm hoping for no side effects......it's done a great job for me so far!!

Hmmmmmm.......I have been on Flecainide 50mg 2xday for almost 11 years now and up until I retired in May I had a pretty responsible job that required really good memory skills , now that I am home I barely know what day of the week it is :) Seriously.................i am forever in love with my Flecainide and I have absolutely positively no memory issues....thats my story and Im stickin to it !

To SameDayNurse - 11 years on Flecainide 2 x 50mg daily without issues is very encouraging. I've been on it for about a year now - without any problems and have wondered how long it would work out. My doctor has told me that with someone like me, it would last a very long time.

Whoa...SameDayNurse....almost 11 years on Flecainade??? Now that IS encouraging! I've only been on it for about 5 months and wondering how long this is going to last! Just knowing there's a chance for 'years' is the best thing I've heard in a long, long time! EP said it should last a long while, but I had no idea it might be 11 years! You've made my day! So happy for you!
