Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

so i had a meeting with my E P.and this is in a nut shell.

1) i have persistent afib

2) since i feel ok so far we are not doing any cardioversion and ablation.and my e p says that i should continue on my warafin med.

3)i am 54 years old diagonsed with afib since 2011.

4) my ehjaction factor is 62%

5) the atrial is moderately enlarged ,which as per him not to worry .

i am sure petey will have something to say on this .

Well, I'm sure if you change EP's you'll get another differing opinion. If you don't have any symptoms, you could live another 50 years on Warafin. I say go live.

Persistent a fib seems to be such a different "animal" than paroxysmal a fib as Petey can attest.

You might have to go with what is most comfortable with YOU.

62% ejection fraction?? I'm so jealous! Pre any heart issues I was at 67%. The last time they checked when i had a TEE done in February I was at 46%. I had paroxysamal afib. Then I had an ablation. After 4 months after ablation i developed atrial tachycardia. They shocked me 3 times and it didnt work. So i am having ablation #2 in June! Good luck!

Ray: You got good info for your situation. I have been through this... just do good stuff for yourself... when you hit 90, have your ejection fraction checked again... then check Daily Strength... they will be talking about whether nuclear ablation or some drug on Mars is a better treatment option. Someone will tell you when you post that you should have taken care of the afib earlier.

Re: Ejection fraction, don't get so hung up on the numbers I was told, it changes and even if it goes low, it reverses with afib. If you are "in" afib, it is hard to measure.

I guess we know too much to enjoy our lives without worry. Never thought about all these moving parts before afib.

I know paceytep sometimes i am too hung over on numbers .but so far i ahve decided against ablation and cardioversion .just staing on warafin .
my INR today was at 2.8 and it fluctuates between 2 and 3 .
