I had Lymes when I was 40 (26 years ago). I had irregular heart beat issues before that, but the Lymes made it worse.

Paul how did you treat it if at all? 26 yrs ago, Im guessing there wasnt any treatment. After watching "Under our Skin", Ive started my own treatment plan on Complex Immune support A-Z.

Boy I'll tell 'ya this is scary stuff and it becomes more scary with each passing year. I'm from Mass. and there is an epidemic this year with tick infestation there and in all of New England. I know several people who have been severely messed up by this disease for a year or more. Be careful out there, wear protective clothing and/or spray with repellants. I'll take my chances with the toxic stuff any day of the week.

I used to do a lot of hiking. I was a member of several hiking clubs at the time. The NY/NJ Trail Conference had a regular newspaper which covered the disease. I had to twist my doctors arm to give me the test ... I tested off scale. He put me on the first course of antibiotics (I don't remember which). A few weeks later I was still sick, so I went to the late Lymes Clinic that Cornell Medical had set up in Valhalla, NY. They were doing a lot of research at the time. They put me on more antibiotics. I felt the effects of the Lymes for about a year.

Surf, have to agree with the toxic repellent for ticks, scary stuff. I heard that the ticks are so bad on the cape, hunters noticed ticks deep into the meat of the deer they bagged.
Paul, someone I know had a severe case of Lyme and was only treated for 3 weeks. She waited 6 months with memory loss, fatigue etc, and an ND told her it takes at least 9 months on antis to have any effect on this condition. Shes nearly cured now, however there is a point of no return if this is left untreated or mis treated.

There is a girl I my gym who became so disabled from Lymes that she qualified to Social Security Disability, which is really hard to get. Lymes can be really nasty. Not something you want to play with.

Jesus-H. Be careful out there people. Wear white shirts and socks when you can. Like I said I'll take my chances with Deet, etc. It's a shame growing up in Mass., I was in the brush and woods all the time. Back then they were'nt around like they are now. Now they even are falling out of the trees. I wish there was some shot that people could get but on the other hand it might cause more issues that benefits.

I had Lymes 30 years ago. Luckily I had a Dr. who tested me when I asked to be. I had had the classic bulls eye and rash and after looking up the reasons for having that I concluded it was Lymes. the Dr. said probable fibro or lymphoma of some kind. I insisted I wanted to tested for Lymes and it came back positive. She found it hard to believe because there had been no cases in Fl at that time. So I was treated, the meds made me quite sick, was on them for a month. Then was tested again it was negative. However I insisted upon being treated a second time. And I think I beat it. No more aching and feeing so tired. My afib didn't start until 3 -4 years ago.
I think I was lucky to catch it so quick and lucky to have a Doc that listened to me. So far all tests have come back neg. Although I understand there is a high percentage of false negatives.
