Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Anyway, I'd like to see Carrie come back. I'll have to check my old posts... I know I offend a few with my opinions.
Carrie, don't make us sing the old Player song:
Carrie come back, any kind of fool could see
There was something in everything about you
Carrie come back, you can blame it all on WE
WE was wrong, and WE just can't live without you
Okay, I changed the lyrics a little, but you get the idea.
petey
Come back Carrie, we need you.
I'm not sure exactly. I don't believe it was directed towards Carrie?
In any case maybe if 50 or 60 people send her hugs and flowers - she'll crawl out of the bushes.
Tough to dig through all of these post here on DS,.......

Another reason I have contemplated whether I should participate is because I felt I do not have a lot to offer from my experiences. I am told that I am now in persistent afib in spite of trying 2 ablations with the last one having a serious complication. I feel that my experiences would make people afraid or make them less hopeful of ablation. I had been feeling pretty down. I had some terrible days where I was feeling very dizzy and kind of confused over the last month. Not sure if it was because of AF or because of beta blocker but am feeling better lately. I was also frustrated with going from Pradaxa to warfarin. Pradaxa was easy but expensive. Warfarin is cheap but challenging. The doctor had a very hard time getting the dose right but seems as things are finally leveling off. It took over 3 months to get here. I still am having to go every 2 weeks. I asked him if I could just go back to aspirin because I was getting frustrated and was constantly being asked to go for lab work. He told me that if he was told tomorrow that he had afib, he would be taking warfarin. He said controlling a bleed is better than dealing with an Afib stroke. He said Afib strokes are never minor strokes.
Even though you can live your life with AF, I still feel robbed sometimes. I never imagined myself here at 45 years old. AF and now after recent doc visit, I am now pre-diabetic, cholesterol over 200 and very high tryglicerides! What the heck! I exercise every day and eat right most of the time. I completed the EMT program and will likely try for a job at the hospital. My true wish was to work for Fire/Rescue but I am really not the ideal candidate for hire with a history of AF, reliance of beta blocker and anti-coagulants. I guess I should have figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up when I was much younger :) Oh well. No more pouting, I promise.
I enjoy offering my compassion and I enjoy being a caring listener. I love to be there for others when they need to talk, to vent or just need someone to tell them everything is going to be okay eventually. Maybe you all have shown me that maybe I do have a purpose here.
Thomas: Thanks for smoking me out of the bushes. You are a such a kind and caring person.
Petey: Thanks for the ear worm- I cant get that song out of my head now!
Bill: Thanks for the laugh. Your good humor and honest observations are a treasure :)
Wishing you all a great weekend. :-)
I have been a member of this site for about a year and can only recall politics being discussed one time. The discussion dealt with the heath care system. For those interested you can check out the thread at:
http://www.dailystrength.org/c/Atrial_Fibrillation_AFib/forum/16879980-doctor-treat-af
I remember this discussion vividly as I thought some parts of it were out of context with the spirit and caring shown by the DS members that I had grown so fond of. I think the participants of the discussion realized this and quickly reverted to being helpful and caring.
I do not know if this discussion offended Carrie but like I said it is the only time I recall us discussing politics.
Like others I do hope Carrie will reconsider her involvement in this group as I felt her deep and sincere caring, love, enthusiasm and support in all her posts. In addition her knowledge, insights and her uncanny ability to explain things helped so many people that to not have her around would be a great loss for all of us.

Now you never have to worry about discussing politics again... even though healthcare is a VERY important part of the future of our treatment of afib.
Clane, you have nothing to worry about now.. I'm gone.
Lets put this behind us....and keep focused on supporting each other.
Wow! I must have missed that thread! Or I have just forgotten...a combination of afib and senility. That was a good one! We have a great group of very supportive people here, a sort of an "afib family," but even in families, there are varying political points of view. The idea is to express your view and NOT get ticked off....of course, easier said than done...my acupuncture lady told me at one point before the last election "Turn off the tv...you know who you are voting for! Don't give yourself a stroke!" We have become such a divided country, and there is much anger there..and I am as guilty as the next person. But overall, I think we are so very supportive of each other here. God bless us, every one!

Islandluvr: Don't go. Your posts are great. It wasn't your fault. If you track the posts that opsyn provided the link for, you will see how it started. The negative comment about our country should have been moderated. I actually ignored it and tried to help the poster (cjwinter?) with info/questions. Then there were political comments. Everyone who participated (including me) should look at their posts and see what we can do different. I know I thought about it a lot. Anyway, I think we do pretty well for not being moderated. If you look at the Yahoo Afib groups, there are some nasty arguments and people "selling". We don't have that. So anyway, I guess I have to come up with a song for Islandluvr... markjames can play guitar and sing and Thomas/surfrat can play the fishing reel... here's a Stevie Wonder song ...
Call up, ring once, hang up the phone
To let me know you made it home
Don't want nothing to be wrong with Islandluvr
If she's with me I'll blink the lights
To let you know tonight's the night
For me and you, my Islandluvr
Islandluvr
