Now that I am in Florida for the winter I walk around the lake each morning and I cannot ever get a heart rate of 150. The best I can do is 100. Does exercise not effect everyone differently?

I walk every day, elipitical 5 to 6 days a week and do some yoga and light weights. Even when I push myself on the elipitical I can't get my heart rate above 85 beats per minute.

ray: Actually, I used to be the 60 year old guy running with 20 year olds and lifting weights so I could look cut. That's what people do from New Jersey, particularly when you have Italian Irish blood.

Now I am a little laid back about exercise.

I still want to exercise obsessively, but the meds slow me down a bit. -petey

doc told me not to go above 150 on my heart rate , do u have a watch that you strap to get a heart rate or is it the one on treadmill that you cling ur hands .
well i think people in east coast are better since they tend to walk more then we folks in los angeles .
how much do u walk is it on treadmill or out on streets .

5K at least. The watch type monitors are best. The ones on the treadmill are kind of unreliable. I don't have a watch type... actually I do, but I put it away somewhere. I wouldn't worry about the exact number.

I like the treadmill better because when you are half way there, you are already there and don't have to walk back.

Ray, Check out my response to Petey; looks like150 is the magic #.

I use spin bike - can't run because of other issues although this summer I did two big hikes at altitude - one over 10,000 feet (Wyoming) and the other between 6-8,000 (Canada). I lift weights every other day and bike the days between.

However, last week I went into afib again (this time I felt it right away). I am going if for a cardio version this week (my second).

I just got back to my pre-afib level of cardio conditioning, and now I really can't do much. I had pretty severe symptoms for about two hours one day. Could barely move. Much better today.

That two hours was pretty troubling. My daughter is an R.N. and lives next door so she came and checked me out.

We will see how the next step goes. I am very fit, low blood pressure, no other issues with anything (except a worn out hip flexor).

I am playing a trip to Chile in March (adventure trip with my five adult children - backpacking, zip line, etc.).

It is a crazy life! We'll see how this all turns out.

Could you be more specific re: your "pretty severe symptoms"?
I feel when I go in and out of Afib. So far, fortunately I go back NSR on my own after 4-16 hrs. usually without many symptoms?

Severe would be difficult to make myself breakfast standing up. I had to be reclining with feet up. It was like being at very high altitude. My body was just not getting enough oxygen. I am tall (6'6") and I have spent time at high altitudes, so it was just like that. Just standing and walking across the room was very tough. In talking to the docs, they said if I started sweating to call 911 and that never happened. Feel fine now!
