Vinny Ive been taking something similar for my thyroids for about 35 years now. Dont think of it as yet another drug but as a supplement that is giving your body what it doesnt have enough of. If your doctor gets the amount right and you get your thyroid checked regularly you will not have any problems. Its safe and has been on the market for a long time (since the 1960s if I remember correctly). You will feel better and have more energy. As for the warnings you mentioned you get too much and you go into hyper, yes, that could affect your heart. Getting your levels checked will keep that from happening. As far as blood thinning goes, as with any additional meds you take you will have to keep an eye on the warfarin and might end up taking a little less (who can complain there?). No biggie, I take both.

Now, you might be thinking, wait, acrossthepond takes this AND has a-fib! dont jump to any conclusions there, my a-fib was NOT caused by my thyroid dysfunction. My a-fib was caused by something else, my thyroid levels are where they should be.

It takes a while for the Levothyroxine to get into your system and start working so dont expect to feel any different a week later. It usually takes 8 to 12 weeks before you really notice a difference.

OTP....Thanks so much for the reply....I feel alot better and talked to both my cardiologist and primary dr. about my concerns and they said about the same thing.....I really appreciate it!

So many of us afibbers are hypothyroid. I wish someone would research this connection. My EP once said that the majority of his patients have thyroid problems.

For what it's worth my AF always started overnight until a shortly after getting a Rx for Naturethroid due to low thyroid function, (62 mg/day). I took it in the morning and began to have daytime-originating AF episodes!

Naturethroid is everything, Levothyroxine is only T4 which your body should only convert (to the active T3) as needed - shouldn't bother you.

I split the tabs am/pm and it stopped the next day so take your meds but speak up if anything feels differently. I'm now off Naturethroid on a compounded T3/T4 and Doctor is slowly reducing the dose. Said it takes 8 weeks to show in the lab numbers as ATP said.
