So glad to read that everyone is enjoying retirement immensely...cuz I am getting booted from the Army 31 December and I am AFRAID! Hoping my fears about retirement are unfounded and I will enjoy it as much as you all are!

I retired over 11 years ago this January 4th and have worked every day since for defense contractors.

Just wanted to add my congratulations and hope your retirement is everything you want it to be --including less stress and decades of NSR!

I retired at least four times in the last ten years or so. Each time another project comes along that looks interesting, and since I tend to get a little bored, there I go ....back to work again. However, I hope to retire for good before the end of the year. Paying into Social Security for 50 year is enough dues -g-. In August I reach full retirement age. Since my Sharon is older than me, I can file for Social Security as a spouse, get half her check until I'm 70, while my Social Security account increases. Both partners must be past full retirement age (and married for at least one year) to pull this off.

Congrats and enjoy! I've been reitired for 3 years and the stress reduction is noticeable -- although I still manage to find sources of stress in things that never bothered me before.

As of yesterday, I have one more year as a 4th grade teacher. I'm so hoping the less stress that I will feel once it's over will help keep my afib at bay.

I just hope that my last year isn't filled with worry about retirement!! Change is always hard for me! 22 years is a long time!

Thanks to all of you !!!! So far it feels like im on vacation but the stress level of daily life has definitely bottomed out....amazing....Life Is Good for sure. Many many years of very long hours on my feet in the Recovery Room are joyfully laid to rest ( I think :)

After 28 years in Corporate America, it took me about 20 minutes to adjust to retirement! Interestingly, I slept 8 - 10 hours each night for about the first year of retirement. Congratulations - and enjoy!

I'm very happy for you and very grateful that you're able to contribute more to this board. I was a little worried about being retired but I had a friend that retired from the City of Tulsa 4 months before me. She read about the stages of grief; studied lots, and warned me that she would probably be depressed for a while. She took to retirement like a fish to water! No stages, no depression; just glorying in her newfound freedom. I hope all of you who are dreading retirement have a similar experience - I did!
