Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Hi Everyone, I have been missing you!!! I didn't know the "good ole" site was still operational, and have been here mostly alone for the month.

This site will get more user friendly as time passes IMO. They have come a Long way since it opened!!!! So, let's hang on.

After my wonderful almost 8 mos. NSR, I am back to once a month episodes. I have changed my conversion technique. I used to take a Metoprolol upon onset at 3 AM. and struggle from there.

Now, when I wake up at 3 in afib I take 300mg. Rythmol right away. When I wake up again several hrs. later, I have converted. I've done this twice and am delighted with how this is working!! I used to take the Rythmol when afib was messing up my plans for the day. It would take a few hrs. to convert, and even tho I was in NSR, I was groggy. Taking it right away upon onset, is better for me!!! And, I don't have the extra grogginess from Metoprolol :-)

Happy 4th, Yoga! Glad you are optimistic about the site. They did fix my Pasword glitch quickly when I wrote to them, so you are right that things can/will improve.
Glad too that you have found a workable strategy for your episodes.

Managed to get in and then the next day could not. This morning logged on no problem! So I am making progress. Glad your new regime is working. It is funny how you go along feeling fine and then out of no where that feeling comes a slaps you down and reminds you that the ole ticker is out of control. I am still the same generally wake up with it, only change is a Couple of times it has struck in the evening and shorter in duration.

I won't ever like this format as well as the old one. I may be able to "get used to it" but this is significantly less user friendly. I could not log on with my old id and password. So I modified it a bit and am back. As of this moment, I can't think of a single thing that's better about this change.

Happy 4th Yoga! Sorry to hear that afib is back. I'm glad you've found a new way to keep it under control.

YG, you get to start on a new record. Some say this condition gets worse with age, but personally I refuse to accept that. Just when I say Ive got this beat however, the PVCs start up to remind the next off beat could throw me out of NSR and keeps me humble. I went 9 mos once, and had a baby afib right on time. Next was 5 mos, then 13 mos. Presently its 20 mos with my worst month of aug coming up. I have fixed my feet issues so Im back to jogging at least and maybe that will be an asset. For me taking meds never kept me out and most of them never converted me, so at this point Ive got nothing to lose. I guess if we never get to the root or the source we will never truly rid ourselves of this horrible condition.

hwkmn – 20 months?! Congrats. For me the meds have lowered the frequency, length and heart rate but not gotten rid of the darn thing (still at least once or twice a week). Even if you DO know what the root cause is, it still has to be fixable! Carpe diem, atp
