Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Did anyone on here ever take iodine to see if it helped or stopped a fib?
I take iodine (Lugol Iodine 12.5 mg, 2 drops) every day. It does not affect the afib one way or another, at least for me. I take it as a supplement for thyroid and a lot of other stuff in the body.
Dr. Brownstein, M.D. has a book and videos about iodine and why you need it. To me, what he says all make sense. So, I started to take iodine about 9 months ago.
By the way, Berberine is the latest for sugar metabolism in the body. It is like Metformin for type 2 diabetes according to Dr. Jonathan Wright M.D.

I always wondered what the impact of iodine is on afib and if low levels of iodine is one of contributing factors for afib since our iodine sources (bread,iodized salt) has been reduced in our diets and afib seems to be on the rise.Whether these two are correlated, I don't know. Perhaps the Brownstein book and video expands upon this
It is interesting that the drug amiodarone (high iodine content) is used to treat afib.
I get my iodine from food sources primarily seaweed but food labels are not required to list iodine content. Since I am asymptomatic I cannot tell you if has helped or hurt.
