I've traveled alot. Russia, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Poland, France etc. I've had afib episodes while traveling. The one in Russia was the worst and I was treated by the Riverboats doctor. I think I was just exhausted. I'm no spring chicken being in my 70's. Your doc can give you meds to take with you and some advice. Yes, always get health ins included in your travel ins. Travel guard is a good co. I always use. don't let afib stop you from enjoying travel abroad. They have afib over there too. Best to youl, Nancy

I don't have any advice on insurance, but I traveled to England a few years ago. I did have an episode the first day...A combination of the heat and jet lag, I think, because my blood sugar also dropped once that day. We were at lunch, and I was able to breathe through it. Luckily, it passed in about 4 minutes and my heart gave me no other problems the rest of my trip. It was 10 days and I had a great time.

I have a fear, also, of traveling overseas and losing my Coumadin or Cardizem somehow (purse stolen?). They keep me feeling secure so I can calm down and concentrate on my breathing to get past episodes. I always get travel insurance no matter where I am flying or cruising. Because friends seem to be afraid of going places with me, I got MASA insurance so I could be flied out whenever I needed to go. My biggest concern is that because the doctors were unable to Ablate my heart and it is so enlarged, fatigue is my enemy in trying to walk as far or as fast as anyone else. I get very tired much sooner than anyone else. I am currently losing more weight and now have a trainer at a very reputable gym. I don't know if that will help at all but it makes me feel that I am doing something towardscombating the fatigue.

I travel frequently between California and Massachusetts - about 6 1/2 hours depending on the tail wind and have not had problems flying. I ben been on a cruise and a few vacations.

Most of my episodes are in the evening and through the night and I seem to be able to sleep through it. A lot depends on what happens to you when you have an episode - I have only had to go to the ER once, and that was because my heart was racing - most of the other times I am in an episode for about 12 hrs and it them self corrects.

Like nschow, I too am in my 70s and I have never had afib interfere with my life. I know enough to slow down, hydrate myself and take it easy if I am in afib - other than that, no one really knows when I have an episode. Take your trip, take your meds, relax, use common sense, and have fun. Joan
