Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I just ran into this website this morning.
I must say that this is one of the most creative and interactive sites I've seen in quite some time.
It doesn't surprise me that with all the coin $$$ Boehringer Ingelheim has in their pockets that they would be responsible for it's existence.
I'm not sure however who the ad agency was responsible for it's design/creative etc.?

What a load of crap. They take a grain of truth and spin it. First, it shows all people over the age of 60... I'm not one of them! There are plenty of younger people who have afib.
It also doesn't tell you about the risk variables-- age, gender, and whether you're in chronic afib or once in a while.
I haven't even looked at the video yet..
The video/commercial is brilliant, dropped coffee cup, shopping cart abandoned in parking lot. Wow.

Actually, although BI funded this, it was in partnership with Mellanie's org, HRS, etc. I participated in some phone interviews as BI wanted to know how they could be helpful to afib patients. The decision was to have an interactive website and not have it be about Pradaxa only.
I noticed some of the more subtle risk factors the victims on the website have (like walking a dog, taking the train, and loving to help your wife around the house) I don't have.
When i was interviewed on the phone (there were people from BI listening I was told), they asked me if there was anything else BI could do for me... my answer:
Either come up with an antidote or give a T-shirt that says "Don't hit me! I'm on Pradaxa!"
I'm positive I heard chuckling in the background.

I haven't seen this campaign on TV to date yet. It may not be intended for such, but I find that unlikely do to how well it's produced. And like I said the video was posted in Sept. of last year.
Any informative efforts are welcomed and certainly needed, especially at the hands or initiation of a pharmaceutical. As much as I love the execution, it fails on many levels.
At least there are the links for some of the most informative AFIB organizations out there. ;)
I am on cheap warfarin. At 81 I have outlived ones in my family but my mother who died at 86. She had a light stroke at 54 and never had another. Not Afib.
Bus will be her soon. Changed my socks in case as I am going shopping.
