What I have read is that Ablations can be successfully performed on folks 80 and above. Seems to be the big question is does one have any other long term health problems. If afib is the only big problem, age doesn't seem to be a factor.

I was under for just over 3 1/2 hours. However, some other members here were under for less than 2 hours. On the other hand, some other were a lot longer. Depends on what need to be done and which approach is used. I understand the cryo balloon is a faster procedure that the RF.

my ep said that older people's hearts are softer and there is more risk of bleeding - I guess if I was really bad he woudl do it but the meds are working so he rather not - I am 75

My ablation took 1.5 hrs. Following the ablation I could not move my legs for 6 hours (which I believe is standard practice) so you may be confusing ablation time with post ablation time.

1.5 hrs is shorter than most and as others have said depends on factors like what needs to be done and approach. In addition, I suspect the ep's experience, technology deployed, if they have to induce afib may be factors as well.

It depends. My PE/ cardiologist performs ablations, he does not recommend it to me because of my age (>75). But recently I learned that he is going to do it to a friend of mine who is 83. She has Atrial flutter, I have paroxysmal a-fib. I heard about a woman of 90 who had successful ablation. Personally I do not want to be "ablated" as long as Warfarin and Sotalol work as maintenance drugs. When I am free of anxiety I am doing almost fine. I do not consume any alcohol, soft drinks, caffein, chocolate and avoid sugar, meat, white flour, I exercise regularly and practice yoga daily. So it goes, Marya

I think I was under conscious sedation for about 6-7 hours. Flat on my back for 20 hrs.
