high triglycerides and sotalol

My Dr was horrifed to see that my trig are 440 - but I was puzzled since i eat a healthy diet on WW - sotalol can raise trig and affect metabolism. Why doesnt he know that? since i am going off sotalol to start tikosyn I told him I dont want to start any other new meds until I see how tikosyn is. Sometimes I feel like just stopping all the meds and taking my chances! lol

Agree. Get tired of taking pills.

Sotalol increases your lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides). It raised my LDL and total cholesterol by about 25 points, but my HDL seemed to stay the same in the mid 60's. I've always had normal triglyceride levels in the 50's and with Sotalol they were in the 80's
It can also increase your glucose levels slightly.

My cardiologist said he was not concerned about it, but said we need to keep an eye on it.

I agree Sotalol can cause many side effects and I hope to stop it after my 2nd ablation.

I am getting nervous about tikosyn also - I hope that doesnt give me abunch of side affects. I don't get afib all that much - maybe 2-3 times in 6 months but my dr seems to think I need tikosyn - this is after he takes me off the sotalol. then he wants to put me on Tri-cor, which makes me very nauseous, because my triglycerides are 440 when the sotalol raised it. dunno

For what it is worth, I just had blood work completed and my cholesterol and triglycerides are all stable, within normal limits and have not changed for the year that I have been on Sotalol. I take 120mg twice a day.
