Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

going back to the gym.

Its been a year since I lifted a weight. I have lost 40 pounds and my body has started to atrophy to the point where I have back pain. Its time to go back to the gym and lift some weights as walking 6 miles a day isnt enough for me anymore. The problem is that of the 7 times I went into afib 5 of them were at the gym. Im not going to lie but Im a bit scared to head back. Any advice?

Yes, Weights are Important! I find the gym motivating, but also competitive. I see folks doing something, and yes, it motivates me, but also pushes me beyond my limits at times.

I have found youtube has some excellent videos. I can go at my own pace. I like the HasFit series. Scott posted a youtube site last week that he likes. Try some at home workouts.

Have u tried yoga? It is not all sitting and breathing. Some classes really work your muscles. I am sore after some classes, like I've. been lifting weights. It is great for AFib because of the deep breathing and relaxation. Goof luck!

Yes I love yoga. I grew 3/4 inch in the 2 years I have been doing it.

Wow, Yogacat, of all the benefits I've read about, I didn't know yoga made a person taller! I'll be glad if it helps in the other direction (a little shrinking of the waistline!). Enjoy!
