** MONITER** not monster

Benzar- I bet most of us here didnt bat an eye when we read Monster, no monitor as most of us feel that Afib is a monster in our chests :)

I have taken Flecainide at various doses in the past. It didnt adequately control Afib for me. However, there are many people on this support group who have had tremendous success with Flecainide.

Good luck to your nephew. He is so young to have to deal with Afib at such a young age. My son had an episode of Afib when he was 17 years old, however, once he converted in the ER, he has not had another episode for 10 years now.

Well, I am one of several on this Board who have great success with Flecainide and have regained quality of life because of it. Having said that I feel that your nephew might be a different circumstance with his very young age compared to my much more advanced age :) Im wondering if this young man had some type of cardiac anomaly at birth or some family heart history this sounds like a most unusual situation to me . Personally I cant say a bad word about Flecainide and I hope your nephew is getting the very best and most advanced care available to give him back his quality of life also .

I've been taking it for a little over a month now after a failed ablation, it's worked wonders for me. Haven't noticed any side effects that would make me want to stop taking it.

I have to echo what SameDayNurse said. Nothing I can really add. Flecainide has given me my life back also. I take 75 mg twice a day.

I, too, take Flecainide, 50 mg. twice a day. I've only been taking it for about 6 weeks, but I have nothing bad to say about it. I am hoping that I've now been on it long enough to know that I'm not going to have any side effects.

It seems better that the other rhythm control drug I was taking (Multaq). I've noticed a big decrease in palpitations so far. I'm hoping for the best.

been on it 6 months 50 mg 2 times aday went into afib oct 13 2014 so far so good no side affects either

@Benzar -

Do you know if your nephew has had a complete cardiac check-up? Nuclear stress test (aka myocardium perfusion study) and a full echocardiogram (ultrasound imaging of the entire heart, valves, etc) study?

Also has there been an evaluation and understanding of your nephew's habits? For example, alcohol, caffeine, (lots of energy drinks contain large amounts of caffeine, for example), etc.

Also what about sleep apnea? Can that be eliminated?

Sometimes these ^^ are factors in AF triggers.

As for me, I've been on Flecainide 50mg twice a day since my last episode last July so that makes it nearly 9 months on Flecainide and no repeat episodes. Minimal side effects - sometimes I suspect I might feel a bit tired from time to time but then again, maybe not.
