Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

first E P visit

Hi ,
met with my first E P , as per him i have what is called persisitent

A FIB , as per him i should be left alone with coumedin and if i like i may try to go for my first cardio version and tha bring it back to proper rythem .

now that again is my choice or i stay in a fib and stay with frugs .What he was more concered about was my B P which was at 100/151 .

he added novarax to lisiopril and hydrochlorizide for that .

he was not keen to do anything else except to stay on warafin and loose my weight and lower my B P .

please let me know what i didnt ask or i should have asked .

I am taking Norvasc for blood pressure. Since I am in Canada the drugs sometimes have different names. However, if Novarax if the same as Norvasc then I can tell you that I am very pleased with it. I have been on that for a year and not noticed any side effects. Before my blood pressure was around 150/79 now it is 120/65, so it seems to be doing the job.

You need the warfarin or other anticoagulant.
You need blood pressure medicine.
You should lose weight.
I guess your heart rate is ok? No rate control medicine?

There is not a likely chance that cardioversion will put/keep you in sinus rhythm if you are in persistent afib. ASk him the success rate for that.

If your cardiologist is honest, and I'm betting he is, he gave you the best advice possible. I have A-fib, and I don't have high blood pressure and never have, I'm not overweight at all, but I inherited a condition which causes high cholesterol. I take 40 mg of Zocor a day for it and have for years. It's what causes stenosis in my arteries, and the only option is trying to keep them cleaned out. Every dug has it's problems. for a lot of people Norvasc causes edema, and for some people it's awesome. I hope you get your BP down, and I hope if you are in persistent A-Fib you learn to live with it. I tried to fight it and lost.
