Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
It is coming up on one year since my wife's ablation. She now has developed extra beats. The EP wanted to put her back on Tykison but she refused. She is now on a calcium channel blocker that seems to be working. The EP says the extra beats hurt nothing saying ablating them was risky. Anyone ever heard of this after this an ablation.
Heart skips
The other thing that sometimes worries patients is that they still experience extra heartbeats or skips as before the ablation. In fact, before the ablation, it was these skips that started the heart racing. Seldom does the ablation address the spots that produce these extra or skipped beats so they will continue to occur. However, the mark of a successful ablation procedure is that these beats no longer kick the patient into the heart racing. Patients should feel their pulse after these skips to ensure that the heart is not racing. A heart skip that doesnt turn into a racing heart is a very good sign that the ablation was a success.

I have a ton of those extra beats after my ablation last March. My docs seem to think they are ok. They told me they are in a different part of the heart than what triggered my a fib episodes.
I feel nervous though when I have them. It feels like if they continue, I WILL go into a fib...
