Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
There we go! Last visit was last Friday.
Part of me is happy of the positive result of the ablation but part of me is very disappointed of the visit outcome.
When I started the whole thing, the EP asked me if I wanted to be part of a study. Of course I said sure everything to help. So now I had to fill a bunch of document asking questions on how I feel AFTER the ablation (That took about 15 minutes)
Then a resident came in and ask me what medications am I on and how I feel, do I had many afib episodes.bla bla bla (Nothing of importance). Then he took my BP and said it was 130/80 then he got up and said It wont be long.
About 2 minutes later the EP who did my ablation came in. He looked at the results of my last holter and said SO! Everything looks fine, lets change your medication. He said stop taking Sotalol and youll start taking something something Propalol (not sure of the name). Then he said Questions?, I said what about xeralto? He said keep taking it, I said whyyyy?, he said because you have HBP. I said for life at 53 years old? he said yes for life! he seemed surprised of being questionedTHEN HE GOT UP AND LEFT??????
When the resident came back in the room I tried to question on why do I have to stay on xeralto just for controlled HBP when the ablation worked and he replied that my chad score was too high.I said Its 1! And my BP is controlled..what gives? Cant I take Aspirin for now and keep the PIP approach in case the afib comes back?.He wouldnt have it! he said you accepted to undergo a study and part of the study is that some patients have to keep on blood thinner and others dont. You are part of the ones who do due to your father stroke history and your HBP regardless on how well controlled it is.
That was it! I was virtually pushed out the door so the next guy could be seen. Im now confused and wonder if I should seek a second opinion or take it and consider myself lucky that the ablation is working for now.
What would you guys do in my place?

I would take the Xarelto and get a second opinion. If the second one says you don't have to take it, I would get a third opinion. Then I would continue taking Xarelto.
