Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I am so sad, scared, tired and overwhelmed. The last few days have been exhausting. I am getting skipped beats all the time. It constantly feels like my pulse is off. I have a funny feeling in my throat. I am just so tired. Will it ever end? Is death the only way out of this mess? I take all kinds of meds, i.e., HBP meds, rate control meds, GERD meds and, of course, a baby aspirin a day. No security there for sure.

I am suposed to have my GB out, but am terrified that it will set off or make the afib worde. I see the surgeon tomrrow for his input...I bet he's gonna want to cut, cut, cut....they all do!

I'm at a crossroads and not sure where to go?

Anybody got any advice or shared experience?

I have been fortunate in the fact that since I was diagnosed, no other health issues have come up. I am sorry for your trouble with your gallbladder. You have every right to be apprehensive because I think it would be so stressful to have to deal with an additional health issue on top of AF. I hope that all goes well for you. If you need to vent, you should :)

We all hate AF, just know that we are here to support each other with encouragement and a place to vent. Try to have a little faith in your doctors and your treatments. Don't be disgusted and sad - things will get better. Make sure they all know your medical history and medications as well as your fears.

I sense how badly you must be feeling. It is good to have a forum where the others really KNOW what you mean when you describe this stupid a fib, isn't it? We are all fellow sufferers and hope we can encourage each other. See what your doc says and express your concerns about a fib. See if he can avoid unnecessary risks.

Yes, we all know how you feel. I think it was this past Friday that I had weird feelings. Not a full blown afib attack but felt like my heart was dropping. I guess it was skipped beats or something. Happened numerous times that day. Had me on edge, thinking I was going to end up in the ER. As for your possible surgery, I had an abdominal hysterectomy 5 weeks ago. I was scared to death to be put under but had to finally just trust the Dr's. I came through fine with no heart issues. Good luck and stay in touch here.

You are depressed. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, only that you need to talk to your doctors. They can help!

I read any pain can set off afib... it was a direct answer to someone with gallbladder pain. Sounds like ridding the GB problem might help. GB pain is worse than symptomatic afib on the pain scale.

Shae sorry to hear that you are not feeling the best right now. I would def keep appt with surgeon. Its not fun having gallbladder pain or problems. Also check with your EP guy too, be sure he is informed of whatever you decide to do. My thoughts and prayers are with you! Stay positive!
