Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
It's cold and flu time and thought this might be helpful for any of us on coumadin/warfarin..
This is from a hand-out we give to our patients on coumadin at the clinic where I work. These should not have much impact on INR.
Cough: OK to take cough medication with guaifenesin (plain Robitussin or Mucinex). Avoid dextromethorphan (Robitussin DM, Mucinex DM).
Stuffy/Runny nose: OK to take antihistamines (Claritin/loratadine, Benadryl/diphenhydramine, chlorpheniramine).
Fever/Pain: OK to take Tylenol/acetaminophen in moderation. (large doses can increase INR so take cautiously)
Avoid Motrin/Ibuprofen, Aleve/Naproxen.
If not sure about a product check with a Pharmacist for products that are safe to take.

I got a cold a few days ago but as always I am going to rely on chicken soup, tea+honey and rest and just let it run it's course. I'm taking Warfarin, a statin, I'd like to eliminate, and Vitamin D.
I just don't like taking meds unless absolutely necessary.
