I agree with you, I have read many others that say they have had episodes and racing heart right after ablation.

I sure hope you self convert soon, and that your anxieties will be relieved even sooner!!!!!

snowshoedude: It's more like 3-4 months before it settles down. Maybe 6 months or more. I read that a fast heart rate after ablation can actually be a good sign. It is quite common. All of this comes from what I have read from reliable sources. Good luck! petey

My AFIB after my procedure was a whole lot worse, faster and more frequent. I also got hit with an enormous amount of PACS that was almost worse than the AFIB. I developed a real bad rash, lost my vision a couple times and don't know why, went to the emergency room 3 times, almost passed out at work and was taken to hospital, so that would be 4 times, became very discouraged, upset, depressed, felt I made the wrong decision, had to put my life on hold for months for a procedure my doctor told me would put me down for only a week. Anyway, although I am not out of the woods yet, 5 1/2 months later, I'm starting to see improvement. A lot of people who have the ablations come out of the gate strong and basically do great. But for some people like me, things get worse before they get better and it may take double the normal 3 month blanking period to heal. So I fall into the 6 month or more group that Petey mentioned and maybe even a year. As hard as it is, try to stay focused and keep telling yourself it will get better. You just burned up your heart and its pissed and letting you know. As someone on here told me, keep your eye on the prize. You may not get it for another 6 months, but eventually you will. Godspeed.

Welcome to this website...as much as I like Mellanie, and there are some interesting posts on her website, this one is SO much easier to maneuver through...and you don't have to read the same email along with the response, like 50 times!(Sorry Mellanie, love you!).

As I was saying to you on that website, the higher resting HR has been a cause of concern for me. I was told by several people (and repeated by Petey below), that it is actually a GOOD sign, but it is still "in my head" I just wish it would drop back into the 70s. Currently 85 resting, but shoots up with very little exertion, although the EP nurse tells me I have to get off my fat patootie (yes, I used THAT word!) and get back to doing an hour of exercise daily and it will come down. My HR was 58 before the ablation....and it was weird...I was actually looking at the monitor, about 4hours after the ablation, when BAM! Went from 58 to 75ish...then later stress (and perhaps lack of exercise) has raised it further. I am hoping, like Mark, that I am just in the 1 year recovery group (7 months since ablation).. Mark is right. Your gonna have afib episodes after surgery. With my first ablation I had it within hours of the surgery but it lasted like 2 minutes. Within 3 months I went back to hospital 2 times because episodes lasted a few hours. With my second ablation I went back within 1 week twice because I started suffering from atach for hours on end. I think my heart is very pissed at me because of all of the new lines that was burned. Tomorrow marks my 2 months since 2nd ablation. I've seen somre improvement but I'm not sure if its because of the meds they had to put me on. Just hang in there!

I don't like this box as it says to add my ADVICE and this is not advice I am just sharing what happened for me. I had an AF (Atrial Fibrillation) ablation and was sent home. Unfortunately, I was back at Emergency after 1 night and 1 day at home. But it felt worse, it was like a double movement, which is apparently called a flutter. Now with the original ablation I was told 70% success rate, but when I saw the specialist and had had the flutter, he said that an AF (Atrial Flutter) ablation has a 95% success rate. So I actually had two ablations within one week. The second one was 3 and 1/2 weeks ago. I have had soreness, a squeezing feeling but my PR has stayed below 90. I passed my initial check up but have to go back in September for the really important one. I have been told that my symptoms are in my head but reading some of the replies you have received, I feel justified in claiming the things that I have been feeling but also feel heartened that I'm on the right track. I don't know if this information is of any help but I hope so.

Thanks again for the great information. As way of an update, my first POST-ablation Afib episode which started on Friday at 3pm ended today Monday at 9am, 2 days and 18 hours after it started. Tomorrow is the 1week anniversary of my ablation. What freaked me out was that it was a faster different afib than I have ever experienced. I am learning this post-ablation stuff takes a lot of patience and a "ride it out" mentality but no matter how many bouts of it you have, I don't think anyone gets used to it! On top of the new post ablation afib/flutter stuff, I have to get used to the Flecainide ( I have read that it can make your heart feel like it is being pressured or squeezed a little and make you feel tired. My heart is doing about 69 right now so really I have getting the extra beats i was "promised" but I look at that positive since it does not leave as much room for the crazy ass signals to take over!
