Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Hi all.....Happy New Year....I posted on this site a few times my last post months ago when things were looking bleak so thought I would come back and report in......because I care about you guys.....Well Im not sure if the Afib helped or not but I was able to get on disability but it will be 2 years before I am eligible for medicaid....So Ive been juggling with my health care through a clinic. They were able to have a cardiologist see me and I told him I was still having episodes...maybe 2 or so a month.
I told him I was concerned about going off Pradaxa ....He said no problem just use up what I had and then switch to aspirin and see him in another year. He was in the room maybe five minutes at most. Ive been taking just one dose of pradaxa a day in an attempt to make them last.......not really knowing if this is a good idea....or just go ahead and take his advice and use the pradaxa up and switch to aspirin. He didnt seem too concerned about only a couple episodes a month but I am.
Its nice seeing everyones posts and have always enjoyed the input of this site.......and I didnt want anyone wondering.......hey what ever happened to vinny?

It makes no sense to take Pradaxa once a day. Use it twice a day till it runs out. If your on disability, doesn't "something" pay for your Pradaxa? We have been posting on aspirin and how it has fallen out of favor as an afib stroke preventer. Search the posts.

As far as disability goes....you cannot get disability based on having afib unless you can have documented proof for 12 mos. in a row.
So I presented my case based on the side effects of not only afib..for instance how many employers can you go to and say....Hey I need to lay down for a few hours now.......but also the side effects of the meds I take....I also take flecainide...all the meds I take have side effects of dizziness and headache and I am unable to stoop without the danger of falling over...I really didnt think Id qualify but I did and I am very grateful for that. I hope this helps.......and thanks again everyone for the kindness of your replies and I thank God theres a support site like this.....cause I really needed it when first diagnosed.
