Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I have the cheapest Virgin phone and plan, which is fine and what I want. However, I'd like to have the app alive-cor, or something comparable which people here may suggest. And advice as to the cheapest phone and plan which would allow me to have this feature? I don't want to surf the web or take photos or anything other than talk on the phone--and have an app which will record my heart rate during any event and allow me to send this to my doctor.

thanks Petey: the alivecor site says that the device is compatible with a tablet. this may be the way for me to go. I'm a luddite; I assume that I could send my doctor any results from the device over a tablet, correct? and I wouldn't need to pay a monthly fee for internet access? I have wi fi in my house.
finally, if I carry alive cor and make a recording, I don't need to have a tablet or phone on hand at the same time; it would record, and I could download the recording and send it off to my doctor, correct?

sorry to be so basic but I'm unfamiliar with this device and tablets, smartphones etc.

so now I'm thinking about getting a smart phone that works with alive-cor used, set it up and don't buy a plan. I should still be able to download the app.I have wi-fi in my house. does anyone know if this arrangement would let me see the results live and send them to my doctor over the internet? Possible this is getting too complicated.
I sent a message to alive cor asking this question but I thought that I'd throw it out there.

Just top bring this to a conclusion: you need to have a tablet or smart phone within a foot of the alive cor device to get a reading. However, you can get an old smart phone that's compatible and not have to pay for a phone plan. It will either still be wi-fi compatible or can be made so. According to alivecor's representative, this will work fine: just download the free app onto the phone/tablet and you're googe to go, including being able to email the results to your doctor. So you can make this work for pretty cheap. Woo-hoo!

Has anybody tried both Alive-cor and the Omron 801?
How do they compare?

I have the Omron HCG 801. You can't really compare them. The Omron is a standalone. The Alivecor communicates through the iphone. The Omron requires you to transfer your ecg tracings to your computer using the scd card. No big deal for me. With the Omron you can take your ECG and call 911 at the same time (just joking)... but you can call and receive calls (or text ) without switching gears. The Omron costs more. If you can read your ECG yourself, I find it very simple. It also tells you your not in NSR with a message. I'm not very savvy with "apps" so, my opinion is based on the fact I don't want to get involved with that stuff.

The alivecor is more mobile, I'd think: you can strap it to the back of a smart phone and go; just carry it like a smart phone. Or at least that's my impression. so if mobility is an issue this is a good device. Take a reading and if need be send it to your doctor's email. It's also significantly cheaper than the Omron; but the latter may have higher functionality. alivecor gets very good reviews however.

Frankly I would have thought that many people here had the device and would chime in---I'm always a decade behind the curve! Maybe this is just such old news that no one cares.
