Ray: I'm with you. I was actling like I was 26 until March when I was 62. I was the one guy my doctor and people thought was doing everything right and "ageless". (at least that's what I thought they thought). Near the end though, I told my wife I could only lift or run at 80% which I attributed to a little weight gain, age and coming off a couple month rest. So I am only doing 2 miles, sometimes 1 mile per day. That would be a "goof off" day in the past. I have a Bowflex Revolution I plan on using at 50% with more reps. My main concern is not stretching out my left atrium more the the 48mm it is at now (moderate size increase). I have read that doing only 1 mile a day has huge heart benefit and I want to avoid other types of heart problems. I have also read that long distance runners have higher calcium scores than non-runners. The best information for athletes is on Dr John Mandrola's website. He puts it in perspective. The hardest thing I have had to deal with is psychological. I have been always able to use "excess" to deal with stress and to prove to myself that more is better (or makes me better). Now I have to take it easier and also factor in my age. I am in persistent afib, so exercise doesn't trigger afib. My recommendation is the "M" word. i wouldnt worry about it to much. i personally have been doing more exercising after being diagnosed with afib than before but thats also with a big lifestyle change. i go to failure most of the time in resistance exercise's being its weights, push ups situps, pullups ect. but i dont push my heart rate to much! on the cardio side. for example on the treadmill i try to keep it at 135-140 bpm for most of the time, maybe do short sprints that will take it to 150bpm a couple times a workout. this seems to work for me so far (about 5-6 months) i have noticed the only time i get the heart palps is when i push my heart rate over 150bpm. check with your doctor to make sure but theres people here who are in constant afib and say they work out 5 days a week with no problem. funny, it seems the only time i feel my afib is when i am relaxing or lying down (slow heart rate times)

My doctor said I can exercise all I want... it is in my own head where the problem exists. I feel nothing in afib.

this is exactly my problem also , i am still in denial that i am in afib cause i also feel nothing except night time when i am lying in bed .

also i am over weight and have blood pressure so i want to loose weight to atleast stop taking bp meds .
from what i see here i am not going through cardio version or ablation .will just stay on meds .it took me 5 months to get my insurance understand that i need to speak to a E P and finnaly after 6 months i am seeing one next week ,talk about our health industry .

Good luck. When I first went to an EP, I was timid because I didn't want to hear bad stuff.

What matters to me is that I control my heart rate (Bystolic) to prevent heart failure and that I an anticoagulated (Pradaxa). Beyond that, I am concerned about atrial stretch (size) and fibrsis... plus the condition of my heart, valves, calcium, you know, the typical stuff. That is what I ask my EP.

I am going to break through my thinking too much and get back in "fighting" shape.
