Over ten years ago I was prescribed Xanax and then I was given Clonazepam instead. Some time later I was dx'ed hypothyroid. I continued to use the Clonazepam PDR. (Meaning occasional limited use). Later I developed Hashimoto's. Over the years I had what I thought were stomach spasms and when I met with a doctor they did not have an answer. Some time later I watched a Youtube video featuring a MD who described the effects of stomach spasms and it's effect on the heart by transmitting the irregularity through the diaphragm. I once again questioned the MD's I met with and none were helpful. Last year I was dx'ed wiith Afib and when I was I realized I had been having Afib attacks for some time. I ended up on Sotalol and Warfarin which seemed to control my Afib. Through this period I had been taking Clonazepam, PDR, but while under a lot of stress took it for about three months. During this period and afterwards is when the Afib presented.
I became curious if a benzo could be a cause of Afib and I found several posts not only indicating a connection between Afib but also a variety of thyroid issues. I am also aware that benzo's are sometimes prescribed to patients with Afib.
I wonder if others have similar histories. If you took a benzo, i.e., Clonazepam, Xanax, etc., prior to your Afib diagnosis please post. Thanks.
