Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Hi..I am newly diagnosed. I am 61 and have had heart irregularities all my life. I have had test after test and all were normal and I was labeled as being anxious. (well I am). Now after having an unrelated surgery I suddenly developed tachycardia and lightheadedness. I bought a Kardia and it said "possible AFib". Showed it to the dr and he said "yep thats AFib". Luckily my risk for stroke is low due to my being under 65 and having no comorbidities. I don't have to take any blood thinners. My issue though is quality of life. When I have "bad days" it is so debilitating. My heart is racing and I can't do anything except lie on the couch and hope it ends. Mine is paroxsymal so it does end after an hour or so but sometimes it will start up again later. If my blood pressure isn't too low I can take a beta blocker and that can sometimes interrupt it.
Anyone else have a similar experience?
I share your story, at age 58, all the way down to the Kardia! I'm a nurse. I decided to find a holistic approach, using nutrition, to resolve my A-Fib. What I have learned is, often there is a Thyroid component, even if your thyroid blood work is normal. The reason is because our diets and much of the food we eat is so deplete of the nutrients we need for our body's. I'm using a Nutrition Response Testing practitioner to help me. It's been an awesome road, uncovered other things along the way. I realize, looking back, that I was REALLY energetically drained, but I kept pushing through it!
