They do not consider this a treatment for AFIB. They would ablate your main node, and you would be solely dependent on the PM. This may be considered if you have other heart related issues...

As Petey says, it's only for when your HR is too low.

My first Cardio Dr. said I was a good canidate for one. I thought my fatigue was caused entirely by the Metoprolol. I don't take it anymore, but my fatigue is still a concern for me. My pulse is high 50's low 60's...so I think I will just eat more Wheaties. Hugs!

I may have to have one myself. After the cardioversion on Monday my nurse said my heart best t one point had a long span before it beat again. It was 46bmp. I've been running in the mid 40's in the morning. I don't do anything except walk until it comes up some.

I'm probably going to have another ablation late June or early July and I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have to put one in. The EP I went to in Dec. said it was a good possibility that could happen. Do I want one no, but if that's what happens I won't be awake to know until its over. This whole thing stinks doesn't it?

My HR has normally been in the 40's - 50's. My PCP told me years ago that I have the HR of an athlete which i am definitely am not. He said that as long as I 'm asymptomatic not to be talked into a PM. I plan to follow his advise.

In AF my HR is under 90. Since eliminating BP pills I no longer feel lightheaded I do feel fatigued until I self-convert to NSR. I am aware of my HB when either regular or irregular.
I would consider a PM if I become symptomatic. It would be for the slow HR not AF .

My cardiologist tried to tell me my low HR was athletic. He ignored my constant light headedness. He tried to put me on anti depressants for the light head. I told him I am not depressed But I WOULD like my heart to beat a bit more.
We eventually settled on a pacemaker and I am pacing nicely at 70 now. BUT I was still light headed until we played around with my atenolol. I Now take 12.5 mg every 8 hours and I take my BP pill at night. No more light head.
I only had a fib once but we are trying to prevent any more. I was always bradycardic but became symptomatic only after the a fib.

I'll add I feel like a million bucks with the pacemaker now. I lost 10 lbs the first two weeks because I can finally move around. No more tiredness and falling asleep during Jeopardy at 7.

Peg, that's what I'm trying to get back is some energy and get rid of the fatigue. If a pacemaker did that for me, I wouldn't hesitate. I'm utterly exhausted all the time and most of the time the dizziness keeps me from doing normal activities. I just want my life back. I want to be able to get dressed and go shopping and do the things I always did. I don't feel the A-Fib, so it isn't to treat it, but my BP is so low that they normally can't get a reading on it. Do you have more energy? Are you less tired? Thanks for answering.
