Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
How about taking amoxicillin and a fib? I dont' see the same warnings that Z-pak had.

Z-pak is in a class of antibiotics called macrolides that can increase the risk for serious irregular heart rhythms and sudden cardiac death. I'm not sure that you are more likely to develop a fib from Z-pak, but someone with history of any arrythmia, heart disease, etc is more at risk of sudden cardiac death if they take z-pak. I think the % is quite low, so most people won't have a problem, but it does raise the risk.
I wasn't aware of this when I took Z-pak a few years ago and I didn't have a problem. Next time I need an antibiotic I will avoid it though.
Amoxicillin caused afib in me about 2 years ago when I got it for a sore throat. The doctor had to change it to something else. I took Amox. for 3 days, which caused afib every day for me. Finally, I stopped it the 4rth day thinking it might be the cause. Well, The afib went away. The next day I took it again just to make sure Amox. was the problem. I got the afib again. Then, I was 100 % sure Amox. was a problem for me and I called the doctor for a drug change. However, it might be okay for you. For me, it almost killed me and the bacterias :-)
By the way, as RN52 has pointed out, the pharmacists are the people who know the drugs inside out and NOT the doctors. The doctors Google the drugs just like you and I :-)

Interesting what you experienced with the amox. It seems so many things can trigger this darn a fib.
