Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group

Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Well, my ablation was just about 2 mo. ago, not a long time, but it has been 2 of the greatest months I remember in a long time. The event monitor I wore showed absolutely nothing in the mo. I wore it. I had a Dr. appt. last week, and EKG is perfect. I don't know if this A-Fib and A-Flutter will remain gone. I think the Dr. is more optomistic then I am that it's not coming back, but I would have the ablation all over again for just these past 2 mo. I feel 20 years younger, have more energy, and am happier. My Metoprolol has been cut to 50 mg a day, and in 3 mo.. I can switch to aspirin and get off the warfarin if all is well. I am so busy enjoying this normal sinus rhythm that I'm going places and doing more things then ever.

I wish everyone A-fib free days, because they are truly magical. I am keeping you all in my prayers...please keep me in yours.

Congrats Dee! How long have you been dealing with AFIB? What type did you have? My husband is sheduled for an ablation in January. He's been diagnosed since May and is having his longest episode so far 5 days straight. Hoping it will self terminate! We are looking forward to the ablation so he can regain NSR over the long term. Hope your hubby's AF stops really soon! 5 days is a long time. Did he check with his doc for a recommendation? It seems he might want to go to a hospital. My limit was 2 days with AF and they said go to the ER.

Hi Heart 2222...After 2 days they put him on Xarelto. His cardiologist said that they can could do a cardioversion if he wanted, but wasn't sure if it would last. Ep says the same thing. Very frusterating because we just want it to stop so it doesn't progress to a permanent thing. His Hr is 80s BP 120/70 feels fine just the crazy bumpbumpbump.........bump with normal heart beats in between. We will consult with cardiologist again tomorrow to see if there is something we can do to get this to stop. Getting very little zzzz's at night right now! Thanks for post. Lisa

Good for you I 'm on 32 months post ablation.....I remember how great it is to be without fib for 2 then 3 then ......really hoping the best for you!!!

Dee, congratulations, I'm really happy for you . I totally understand how you feel, I had 10 months without meds and my energy level was amazing.

Lisa, I had persistent A-Fib and flutter, and had it about 2 years. I had a cardioversion that only worked for a few days, was in the hospital and tried Sotolol, but the antiarrhythmics increased my QT inverval so I can't take any of them...have tried all but amiodarone, and I refuse to take that. I had one ablation a yr. ago and it only worked for 5 hr. What a disappointment. We had a new Dr. move here from Washington, and I gave it one last chance. He was pretty sure he could help me, and so far it's worked. There is nothing to be afraid of. I don't remember a thing about the ablation, and came home the next day. Good luck to your husband.

Thanks Dee, so glad you are doing well! Got a call today and we are heading to Redwood City on Thursday night for ablation on Friday morning. We are very hopeful and optimistic! This web support group has been a blessing. Will keep all posted! Lisa

Love to hear success stories and glad you are doing so well.
We really take our health, and that normal heart beat, for granted until we have a problem.
I have been a nurse for almost 40 years, and never realized how much a fib can devastate someone's quality of life until it happened to me.
Praying for many more a fib free days for you and everyone suffering with this.
