After using my alivecor for months, I also got the same message last week for the first time. I emailed their help desk (they are always very responsive) and this is the reply they sent me : "Thank you for reaching out to us. We could not classify this ECG is a message you receive when the detectors could not classify your recording as Normal, AF, or Unreadable. If you prefer not to receive this message, you can turn off the "Unclassified Message" in Settings."

I also sent a strip in for analysis that had this message and got back a reply of

Sorry for the above cut off message--not -sure what happened.

So the alivecor analysis came back stating "sinus brachycardia with artifacts" which means a heart rate below 60.

I have received the message a couple of times since then and don't worry as of yet because the rhythm looks steady. I try to make sure I hold the device securely. I think the instruction manual online also says that you might get this message if your heart is below 60. I would be curious also if others have had the same response.

Thank you so much for responding. This just started happening for me a few days ago. I was stressing that something just wasn't right. It used to be 50 and below it couldn't read. I hope they didn't just recently change it to a heartrate of above 60. In that case, it will do me no good as I'm always in the low 50's. I will look into it further.

AliveCor just added some new algorithms recently that include an Interference Detector that identifies if factors have affected the recording making the ECG unreadable. The website says the Interference Detector will notify users immediately if there is any interference in a recording, sometimes called noise or artifact, which can make it difficult for healthcare providers to interpret an ECG. Interference can get picked up when there is too much muscle tension or movement in the hands, or if a recording is taken in an area with excessive noise. Users will be notified of interference and prompted on how to retake the recording to help ensure a high-quality ECG is captured.

Hi all: In addition to Petey's information regarding artifact, ECGs can also contain artifact caused by electrical interference, also called 60 cycle interference. If the ECG is taken near the presence of fluorescent lighting or near electrical appliances. This type of artifact will usually cause a fuzzy, blurred looking ECG, especially between the QRS complexes, making of P wave analysis impossible.

Mine also started this behavior this morning. It's a little concerning to get the message unclassified as I also suffer anxiety and something out of norm for me has a chance to trigger an attack. I wonder if this is a bug in this latest update?

Also I do think its related to hr as all of the unclassified reading I have gotten this morning were below 60bpm. I had one after I walked around at about 66 and it was normal. If this is true, then like DBinIL, this app just lost a lot of usefulness for me as well....

I want to update my info about my AliveCor monitor. I emailed the company last week when it began giving me the unclassified reading. She said they would send me a new unit. I received it in two days!

The first two days the new monitor would not work at all. No matter where I tried it, it said there was electrical interference. Now, it seems to work, however, it will NOT show me the result (it does not say normal, a-fib, etc.). My heart rate continues to be below 60 (always in the low 50's), so if that is the reason it won't read for me, I will never get it to work.

I will say I am impressed with the company's customer service department. I will email again, and I'll ask about the low heartrate causing it not to work for me.

I, too, am sad about it. It was really, REALLY comforting to see the word NORMAL on the screen. While I always know when I begin A-fib, it's still nice to feel normal!

I'll let you know what I find out.

which alivecor do you have??? I have been waiting for the iPhone 6 model .. they tell me it will ship at the end of May .. I have paid for it / just waiting .. I hope I've made a good decision to purchase the alivecor?????

Mine is for my iphone 6 plus. It's just the device that sticks on the back of my phone case. I was sure happy with it at first. I'm hoping the new one will work for me.

My AliveCor has been great but I did recently receive that message too, my HR was sub-60 I think.

Have you tried it in a different location to see if the interference is in your house? Longshot but maybe you live over some buried power lines. Might kill 2 birds with 1 stone here...

Mine is for Android and I purchased it in January have used it everyday and really love it. I did go through Period When they were first introducing new algorithms where I would get inconclusive results related to noise around me . rest of the time it works marvelously and they even send me a weekly report on my recordings.

I have not used my Alivecor since the first of April. I looked at my updates and noticed that it was updated sometime today on my iPhone 6. I went ahead and took an EKG to check it out, and it seems to work as it should (normal). However, my pulse was above 60 and I am in rhythm.
