Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

AFib to V-Tach

Yesterday when performing a stress test I went into V-Tach serious enough for the medical people that they stopped by test. Went to the cardiologist who said something else may be going on here and has ordered cardio-cath on Monday.

He put me on beta blocker metoprololo er. Anyone else had this type of rhythm problem and what was the outcome?

yep, did a nuclear stress test and results showed normal heart function. Did just the stress test again about a year later and went into VTach, did heart cath and right artery was totally occluded. Apparently, some collaterals off of that artery were able to supply enough blood to keep me functioning as long as I don't not get my heart rate up. Also left arteries are not bad enough to justify bypass yet. Diltiazem seems to keep the pain and heart rate down. I only walk and ride my bike for exercise. Be carefull.

forgot to mention went into afib first then Vtach during the stress test. Now 6 months later I am in afib most of the time. I'm staying on Xarelto

Had cath done...Heart is clear and strong (doc said I had the heart of a 30-40 year old...I'm 60 so of course I tipped him)

He believes it wasn't V-Tach as the machine designated it. He called it a an aberrant rhythm and that it is not the same.

Going to have CV on the 21st. Hopefully that returns me to NSR and I can avoid ablation. Quicker return to the flight deck and my livelihood

did they put you on any blood thinner med. metoprolol er i take 100 mg everyday just had ablation april 14th still get a few afibs .had 4 cardioversions yea get you in sinus rhythm don't mean stays that way.had it last 7months and had it last three days . i think i would find good ep see what they think its not just an on and off switch afib is a beast mind of its own good ep can help get handle on it .
