Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I had an experience that taught me a lot. I am an artist always in want of art supplies. I got an email that Michaels was having a blowout sale on supplies I needed.. .'one day only , started at 7 AM , while supplies lasted.' I was excited for the next morning to travel the distance to be there. Then I remembered the construction on the highway..I started to get apprehensive about the rush hr. traffic. I told myself, no problem, but.......
I was anxious deep inside. I woke in afib at 3 AM....after 4 mos. of NSR! OK....I will take my Metoprolol, wait til daylight and jog around the block...that always converts me. Not this time!!! My inner anxiety was in charge, and I stayed in afib. Finally, I decided, to heck with the sale, I will stay home and just enjoy my day. I set out on a leisurely walk to take some photos of some flowers I had seen...totally relaxed and resigned to staying home. I converted!!!
Well I did finally convert, I guess I still have a lot to learn. My heart rate was all over the place but usually really low then high, but the really high was for just brief times and BP good. This was the first time in a long time it went above 102....I am good now.
Sometimes LOL I should say all the time if there is a distance to drive and it is not at the right time or conditions I just say no. My adult children still find it different I do not go to the mall ever as I hate the drive there. That is what kids are for pick it for me when you are there.
Pacing is my motto and I just forget sometimes.
