Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

I've had been doing rather well for the last couple of months. For the most part I've had minimal AFIB activity. My hyperthyroid blood work has been coming back normal, and I have been off the thyroid suppression drug for about 3-4 months. The data center project I have been working on has slowed down to 2-3 days a week, and I hoping that it will be finished within the next couple of months. I'm still in the gym 3 hours 3x a weeks and do some other form of exercise the other days. My problem with excessive nighttime urination seems to have be solved when I reduced my blood pressure meds (Norvasc) to 2.5 mg (1/2 the minimum dose). My daily morning blood pressure went up a tiny bit to about 130/70 with a 50 heart rate (which is usual for me). I fact, I had been feeling so well, I've signed up for another Fine Woodworking course. I had been avoiding woodworking since my stroke because of the impact it had on my coordination, concentration, and vision, and I was afraid of getting cut while on Eliquis.
So this morning at 3:00 am, out of the blue, I had an AFIB event. It lasted four hours, not a serious one, I peaked at a resting heart rate (unsteady) of about 105 BPM. I also had the frequent urination that often accompanies my AFIB events. I've been in NSR for over two months. The only thing I can think of, is I had my flu shot last Thursday. Today I feel a little under the weather.
So boys and girls, you might want to be aware of reactions to the flu shot ... a little AFIB is certainly preferable to the flu, especially if your AFIB events are tolerable, like mine. Just keep an eye out.

Glad you are back in NSR! Be careful with those woodworking machines!!
Woodworking is also a hobby of mine. I'm constantly nicking myself one way or another and bleeding all over the place, I just try to avoid the big injuries (like cutting a finger off on the table saw!).
This yr. my PCP wants me to have the High dose Flu vaccine...cuz of my age.
I don't see a collaboration, other than excessive stress.
My problem remains anxiety, which can also precipitate tachycardia. So I'm tip-toeing back into my usual exercise regime to convince myself that I'm fine. It's for psychological reasons now more than biological, I believe.
I spent the last many months anxiety free and hope to return soon!
I have to wonder why the flu would cause us to go out of NSR? Is it more likely that we become more susceptible to dehydration and inflammation etc when we are ill? What otcs are we taking that may impact our conditions also? Best defense is to stay healthy and if we do get sick, treat naturally because meds statistically lessen the flu by 1 day only.
As to why these illnesses bring on afib--that's a good question. But they can and do.
A review of 50 studies that included more than 70,000 adults found that 100 people needed to be vaccinated to avoid one case of flu. That means the vaccine failed 99 percent who took it they received no benefit at preventing the flu."
