Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
It would seem to me that if you have been diagnosed with Lone A-Fib [LAF]
that you would probably have recognized the 'Triggers' that would set you off.
Obviously, its a gamble either way...Taking Eliquis has it's risks also...
Serious risks of hemorrhagic stroke or bleeding, that can't be controlled, as there is
no antidote for it, if I recall correctly...
I guess you could say that I too am a LAF, as I've had 3 episodes in the last 1 1/2 yrs....
after being 'clean' for 10 years...
""BUT"" I'v recognized what the triggers were, and swore I'd never allow that to happen again...
My Cardio wants me on an OAC, and I've refused...
As far as the knees are concerned,,, I'm in the same boat but only with one knee...
I found that by taking 2 x 1000 mg/day of Turmeric [from Costco] and 2 x 150 mg/day of
Celery Seed Extract [85% 3nb ] from Amazon, it basically cured my knee pain problem...
I've read that Turmeric is supposed to be a mild form of OAC [I don't know]..
The absolute most important thing, according to my Cardio, is taking enough
of the correct kind of Magnesium...
Actually, the 'STRESS" from being anxious, could be considered one of the 'triggers' to set you off...
And another thing about Magnesium....It could help 'calm' you, and while also medicating your heart...
Think about that for awhile...
Your chances of having a hemorrhagic stroke [or bleed] from the Eilquis are about 50% of the chances from having it with AF...
What ever you do...Talk to you Dr. and have him lay it out for you...
As Dr. John Mandrola [CEP] is noted as saying.
"A-Fib is a disease of ""EXCESS"""
>>>>>>What are yours ???<<<<<<<<<<
They sent me to hospital where they gave me 10 mg of metoprolol and it stopped. I am now on 25 mg of that per day and 81 mg of baby aspirin. I am so afraid of stroke but the doctor didn't want to put me on blood thinners at this time, especially since I have my period still. Does anyone get afib before their period?
A-Fib, is probably the # 1 thing that Cardiologists see..
Many, many young people get it, and a lot of runners get it also...
For some reason, and I don't know why...Drs. don't prescribe OAC's to young people..
ONLY OLD folks like me...who supposedly have 'other' comorbidities.
Based on all of what I've read, the overall chances of a stroke are basically very small.
Something like 2% for some one of your age...Where as the chances of a hemorrhagic stroke
or bleeding episode are just as great or MORE from taking an anticoagulant,,
Drugs like Eliquis basically don't have an antidote, so you could be in real trouble with a bleeding event..
My recommendation, based on my Cardiologists advice is to load up on Magnesium...
The best kind would be Magnesium Glycinate, or Citrate.. NOT Oxide..
The other best advice is to read the articles here, and determine you ""TRIGGERS"...
And learn to control them...
Like Bada-Bing say, load up on high absortion magnesium, take the pill with a light meal like middle day snack and tea or water, no coffee, the body absorbes it much quicker...
at first you might see yourself going to the washroom but don't worry, its all normal.
also, blood pressure meds specially when it starts to be higher the 20mg---the side effeects are noticable for pretty much everyone, I take hawthorn every morning with candasartan 4mg and it works all good.
as for the blood thinner, another crazy medication... i stop taking xeralto and started on mk-7 with k-2 or if you are in US, consider just buying pure nattokinase, it works with no side effects. take it with a meal as-well, no coffee.
remember to make a journal of the triggers, I had to stop drinking coffee and smoking.
I'm good with exercising and sometimes I go for walks for an whole hour...
basically i don't take any pill that my cardiologist told me to.
cheers
