Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Sounds like his cardio dr. has diagnosed his afib and is helping. Has he prescribed any meds to ease the symptoms? How soon is 'soon'?
People can and have found trigers for afib...stress being one. I am a believer that 'afib happens'. (although I KNOW alcohol brings on an episode for me most of the time)
Sress is caused by our preceptions and thoughts...not other people, I believe. I would guess, his Frustration is more stressfull than 'you'.
It is a tough time for sure, yes even dramatic...but You and He will navigate through it, I know you will!
Afib is scary at first, but as long as it is being treated it is NOT life threatening and you can live a full and healthy life with it. I've lived with it for about 6 years now and I'm healthier, more fit, and more active now than I was 6 years ago. I'm also in my mid fifties.
The important thing is to learn as much as you can about the condition, find the best electrophysiologist you can to manage your treatment, take your medications, eat a heart heathy diet, reduce stress, stay active and physically fit, and manage any other health condition(s) that can contribute to afib such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, thyroid disorders, anemia, obesity.
I live alone and work full-time as a computer analyst. Many of us here work full-time jobs and manage just fine. Yes you will have a normal life again, it's just a new normal. For me the thing that helped the most was taking charge and learning as much as I could about the condition and doing everything I could to help my condition. This helped me feel more in control which helped reduce my stress and anxiety.
You and your husband can get through this together and even come out better in the end. For me it was a wake up call that I needed to make some drastic changes in my lifestyle that I may not have made if this hadn't happened to me.
Here are a few links to UK websites dealing with afib in case you haven't already found them in your web searches.

Is he on a rate control drug, like a betablocker? Bystolic or a drug that ends in the letters "ol"?
He needs to get the sleep apnea treated. It is so typical for tall muscular types who gain a little weight to get sleep apnea. A nech over 16" is actually a risk factor.
I am always in Afib and exercise on a treadmill. Taking rate control (if he has the typical fast heart rate, tachycardia) slows the heart enough to exercise with the doctor's approval.
Losing weight (eating less and healthier) and moderate exercise will probably be advised by the doc.
Read the old posts. education and getting comfortable with afib is important.
Have him look at the posts about celebrities and athletes that have it.

Palpitations are usually just premature beats, either atrial or ventricular (known as PACs and PVCs ). Most people get them at some time. They are caused by caffeine, stress, tiredness, whatever.
I guess that is enough detail.
