Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.

Can anyone tell me the name of a portable EKG machine. My wife is going to be switch to Xarleto from pradaxa. Her hematologist is going to test her to see if her antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is still inactive. She will be off of any type of blood thinners for about a week. Even though the event monitor show no afib events this time will be very stressful on me not her I would like to make sure she has no abnormal EKG events while she is not on blood thinners. Thanks

Sears, Amazon, etc sell them for about $300.

Don't panic over 1 week, though. If your wife's stroke risk is 5% per year based on CHA2DS2Vasc score, divide the 5% by 52 to get the risk over 1 week. Also, the Pradaxa will be in her system for up to 48 hours.

I was not sure how long the Pradaxa stayed in my system....sometimes, I am just not certain if I have taken my Pradaxa. I opt to not take it....my thought is, better to be a bit less protected than to have way too much.

Thanks Petey. so far she has done well on Pradaxa other than some mild stomach problems that have cleared up. The Dr. says that is the complaint he hears the most.

I have no problems other than anxiety when he hear bad drug.com advertisements on tv.
