Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Hi Everyone....Its been a few months since my last post and when my cardiologist took me off Pradaxa for an aspirin regimen. Everything is going ok so far but I always wonder if I am one beat away from having a stroke or something. I have terrible anxiety that I deal with on a daily basis. I can never tell when I am in afib but have an Omron home blood pressure monitor I use everyday that has an afib icon if it senses an abnormal heartbeat.
I recently changed Drs and had a very difficult visit with new Dr. because I could not document a Dr.s recommendation of stopping my afib med Pradaxa. He didnt seem to believe me so this has become an issue now. I didnt think about it at the time because I was happy to be off Pradaxa and felt grateful to even be seen by a cardiologist at the clinic.
I have no health insurance which is making life difficult.
Ok.....sorry for another rambling post but thought I would check in and let everyone know how I was doing.

I understand your anxiety dealing with Afib and the stroke risk. I know Pradaxa is expensive, but Coumadin is relatively cheap and would offer you better protection than aspirin. Maybe you want to ask your new doctor about this option.

Coumadin would be a good alternative to pradaxa, but then you need labwork regularly.
Sounds like you are doing ok...glad you have another Dr. Please stop in as often as you can and keep us updated.
