Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
I was wondering what happened to you! You didn't weigh in on the VERY long "how to cure afib" posts, unless I just missed it. I figured you were on vacay somewhere...in any case, ablation, so no blood thinners. However, if I cannot lose some weight, and the BP keeps spiking, they are telling me I may have to. Right now just aspirin. Hopefully nothing else any time soon!

No problems with it, once my INR was stabilized. I can eat any greeens I want.
My Doc wants to wait until the other bloodthinners have been out awhile longer.
On 3mg/day. No problems maintaining INR between 2-3. I eat a large salad daily. No side effects that I'm aware of.
With my new Medicare Advantage plan I'll have no co pay for Warfarin. I would consider a switch to one of the newer blood thinners if recommended by my cardiologist.

So far I'm doing just fine on Sotalol and my last Afib episode was in August of 2012. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way.
When I was initially diagnosed, my cardiologist recommended aspirin and diltiazem.
Subsequently, I went to 3 ep's for consultations on treatment recommendations as I thought getting diverse opinions was valuable. I gave all 3 the exact same data - ekg's, stress tests, echos, holter monitoring, blood work.
All 3 gave me different treatment recommendations but they all agreed on aspirin.
My sense is that the American Society of Cardiology is not as far along as the European Society of Cardiology which states "The evidence for effective stroke prevention with aspirin in AF is
weak" in its guidelines.
The 3 ep's I went to were American rather than European doctors.
My plan is to go on anticoagulation when I turn 65. In the mean time I take 6 month ferritin blood tests to monitor for potential bleeding.
So far I have not noticed any aspirin side effects. My dr recommended taking it with food and I think that reduces the potential for an upset stomach.

However, I stubbed my toes really bad last spring and my foot was swollen, I couldn't wear shoes for 2 or 3 days, so I took Motrin. It was only for a few days and it made perfect sense to me, but I definitely would ask my MD if I needed to take NSAIDs on a more regular basis.
Sorry that I can't be of more help.
