Hello everyone: This is my first post. I read this message board often and everyone's discussions are very helpful. I love the positive attitude I feel when I read everyone's stories and experiences. In 1999, I was diagnosed with mitrial valve prolapse with trace regurgitation. At this time, my normal rhythm was an accelerated junctional rhythm. I was diagnosed with Afib in August of 2010, though, knew something was different with my heart rhythm for several years before I actually went to the doctor. I am somewhat of a procrastinator! I am now 43 years old. I was diagnosed with proxsysmal lone AF that was nearly persistent. On diagnosis, I was having AF every day but would convert on its own. I was on Flecainide and Metroprolol, however, AF persisted. I have had two PV ablations that also included ablation of the atrial posterior wall. My first ablation was on 11/23/2010 and the second was on 4/19/2011. I suffered a complication with the 4/19/2011 ablation-cardiac tamponade and had to have pericardiocentsis. I left the hospital in AF and was given Rhythmol. After 4 weeks, I seen another cardiologist because I was having very low heart rates of 40 and extremely low blood pressure and my Cardio at the time would not change my medication and my EP only deals with the procedure and would not change medicine. New Cardio prescribed Digoxin and put me back on Flec. AF finally converted but he took me off the Digoxin because he felt it would make junctional rhythm worse. In July 2011, my Cardio told me to stop the Flec. Witin 4 days, AF returned. I wore an event monitor for 30 days and every day that I didnt take Flec, I was in AF so he put me back on Flec (75 mg twice a day). Visited EP and was in AF on Flec per EKG, he looked at my event recordings and said I am in nearly chronic AF now. He said if I were to return for another ablation, he would have to visit other areas of my heart-left atrial appendage, right atrial coronary sinus and left atrial anterior wall. I do not intend to have another ablation. However, I wondered if there is anyone who has had additional ablations to include these areas. Also I am on aspirin only. I do not have heart disease but wondered because of the mitral valve prolapse and trace regurgitation if asprin is sufficient. After ablations I was on plavix and aspirin but was told to discontinue plavix (I was glad because it made me bruise terribly!) I would prefer to be rate controlled only but so far, rate medication does not agree with my BP and heart rate. I am going to visit my Cardio again next month and want to make some changes since I prefer not to take rhythm medication but maybe I am already on the best plan. Suggestions?
