Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Support Group
Atrial fibrillation (AF or afib) is an abnormal heart rhythm (cardiac arrhythmia) which involves the two small, upper heart chambers (the atria). Heart beats in a normal heart begin after electricity generated in the atria by the sinoatrial node spread through the heart and cause contraction of the heart muscle and pumping of blood.
Did you go to an EP?
What heart tests did you have? Results?
How old are you?
What is your CHADS2VASC score?
What did your Dr say?
Have you tried an oral appliance for sleep apnea if you don't like CPAP? I have an Oasys Oral Nasal appliance. BTW, what was your AHI and oxygen scores?
Ask your doctor why nothing else is planned. If it is a GP doctor, then you better talk to an EP.
My EP said that my risk of stroke was higher during an ablation then if I just took the blood thinner (Pradaxa).
The best process, is to talk with your doctor and go over all the options and then make a decision. Talking to others concerning their experiences really helps also. This is a great site for that as it provides the opportunity to hear from several different folks who provide a plethora (had to look that word up) of experiences and thoughts.
Hang in there - Nate
I already had a stroke (TIA) and chose the ablations, knowing that I had a very good EP, up to date on newest procedures and good reputation. My risk for another stroke is higher so I wanted to be rid of AF.
What you see here is that everyone and every case is different and only your cardiologist and EP can evaluate what is best for you. But anything with your heart, see a cardiologist and go from there. Take Care.
I also had a TIA last October. I have high blood pressure so I am on Pradaxa which seems to be keeping my blood pressure down. I take my BP every morning, today it was 108/60 with a 70 HB. My EP has told me that I will be on Pradaxa for the rest of my life. I do not mind when I get such good readings each morning.
Moysra...........
On the EP thing... I went to a cardiology group that did tests and they hadan EP on staff... so a cardiologist is a good idea.
My blood pressure is controlled by a med called norvasc aka amlodipine. Although my blood pressure went from 130/68 on coumadin to an constant average of 115/60 on Pradaxa. Not quite sure what to make of it but will ask my EP when I see him.
