Atheist Safehouse Community Group
This group is for anyone who would like to have a free exchange of ideas and debate. It is designed primarily as a site for atheists, however people of any level of society are welcome.
If this is a safehouse, then what is protecting you and from what? Do you hold yourself accountable to anything? I am asking because I want to know. I had a teacher in high school that said if you don't believe in something then you'll fall for anything. I agree that sometimes I get tired of the bible thumping, I don't like people quoting bible verses to me and don't want to read things that people send me.

Back in 2004 I didn't pay much attention to Christianity, at all. Didn't KNOW it was false, just didn't care. Then I decided I'd try to find out what everyone was preaching to me. That was when I my Toto pulled the curtain away from the tales.
Thanks to fascinating people online, all the pieces came together, rather, fell apart.
In the last 6 years more and more are starting to see the fairy tales fall apart as more and more pick apart the bible.

Seems like 99.99999999999999% of Reality is hidden/unknown by us, and a lot of the .000000000000001% is lies, misconceptions and just plain ignorance. Nobody else knows, either.
There seems to be one main structure and it repeats on different telescoping levels. Our solar system looks a lot like an Oxygen atom. The overhead view of a hurricane system looks just like our pictures of galaxies.
Fractals seem to be how the intelligence organizes on all levels of complexity.
It's not a Power, it's the reality of our existance, perhaps intelligence and energy. Natural, not Supernatural.

If it's a legal matter, I'd turn to a lawyer. If it's a criminal matter, I'd turn to the police. If its a relationship matter I'd turn to therapist, family, and/or friends. If it's a health issue I'd turn to heath workers and clinics. The list goes on and on. Humans are interdependent, I'm no exception. Heck even pets help.
There's really no mystery to it at all. We live in a structured society where there are people, books, places, groups, websites, archives, music, art, poetry, and self expression to turn to.
It's a programmed belief to think that we have to summon the supernatural or omnipotent or deified when we need help.
Babies need their mom and dad, but adults and even kids adapt to their changing development and environment and draw upon whatever resources are there to be drawn upon. Calling out for God reminds me of a baby calling out for it's mother whether the mother is there or not. It's still very sincere and innocent, but I don't think it's very environmentally adaptive. I used to do both, and am not afraid to admit that sometimes my mom and dad still help me. But I think part of the quest for adulthood is letting go of security blankets. God is the world's biggest security blanket in my opinion. That's also very innocent and sincer, but also, like I said, not the most environmentally adaptive.
I'm not saying I'm more grown up than anybody else, cause I'm not. But I do think that a lot of deity and theism stuff is basically pschological hand holding at a very basic level. It makes more sense to me to try and self actualise when possible, or just plain ask others for help when not possible. We're all in this together and there is solidarity in that.
We don't have to feel alone just cause God's not there. There's billions of us on the planet for goodness sake. Existential loneliness is a learned behavior but it doesnt have to be that way.
Any that's my honest uncensored perspective. I don't expect people to agree with me and I don't try to convert people or save souls. The closest I come to saving souls is trying to prevent people from committing suicde. And I think plenty of us share that instinct. There is no chosen people. We're all in this together, all of us on planet Earth whether we like it or not, whether we cooperate or hurt each other.
No person is an island. Earth may be an island, but it's a crowded place so I dont' feel the need for an intergalactic imaginary friend anymore.
